DEAR (Drop Everything and Read)

This year part of our School Development plan at Glen Stewart includes a school wide emphasis on literacy and time spent reading. To involve our parents and students in this endeavour we have begun a DEAR program. DEAR stands for Drop Everything and Read. We are encouraging families to stop and read for 15 minutes each day. If our students and parents do this from November until June we can accumulate over 1 million minutes spent reading. Principal Pat Campbell has promised a school -wide celebration in June if we meet our goal of 1 million minutes. We have asked families to send in their suggestions for what type of celebration they would like to have if our goal is met. Over 100 families have sent in their suggestions! This is a great response and beginning to our DEAR program.
If your family has not yet begun daily reading time, we encourage you to get involved as soon as possible. It is never too late or to early to spend time reading. All reading counts! Read what you love. For some this will be magazines, newspapers, cook books, cartoons... the choice is yours! So grab a comfy spot and settle in for some time with your children while you enjoy the printed word.

Please see the school website to retrieve the form to record your reading minutes.

Free Tickets - Tubby the Tuba

Free tickets for Tubby the Tuba.

As you may know, PEISO has a concert this Sunday, Nov 23rd called "Fun for All Ages". In this concert, we are doing some very kid-friendly works, including Tubby the Tuba and excerpts from the Nutcracker Suite (see full concert details at www.peisymphony.com).

We are holding a free open rehearsal with PEISO, guest soloist Greg Irvine and dancers from dance umbrella on Saturday, Nov 22 from 4:00-5:40 pm. The rehearsal is open to anyone with a ticket (and they?re free!). We have the tickets at Glen Stewart, or you can pick them up at the Box Office. It is definitely a working rehearsal, so it should be quite interesting for band and string students. Doors open at 3:30 pm and close for rehearsal at 4:00 pm.

Please contact Sue Irvine smirvine@edu.pe.ca, if you would like a ticket.
